What dictionaries are available in this program?
You can see the list of dictionaries on the "Store" screen. The list includes both general lexical and subject-based dictionaries with different language directions. The convenient interface of Lingvo Dictionaries allows to choose and install the dictionaries they need straight from the program.

How to install a set of dictionaries?
To install a set of dictionaries:
  • Go to the Dictionaries/All section in the side menu
  • Choose a translation direction using a language filter
  • Select the desired set of dictionaries
  • Press the Download/Buy button in the set description

How to restore a previously purchased set of dictionaries?
  • Go to the Dictionaries/All section in the side menu and choose the Restore Purchases in the menu
  • Select the set of dictionaries in the list and press the Download button

Where can I find Discounts?
  • Go to the Sale section in the side menu
  • Or go to the Dictionaries/All section in the side menu — discount dictionaries are on the top of the list

How to delete a set of dictionaries?
To delete a set of dictionaries:
  • Go to the Dictionaries/All section in the side menu
  • Choose a translation direction using a language filter
  • Select the set for deletion
  • Press the Delete button

How to install a sound file for a dictionary?
To install a sound file for a dictionary:
  • Go to the Dictionaries/Installed section in the side menu
  • Choose a translation direction using a language filter
  • Select the dictionary
  • Press the Download sound button in the dictionary description

How to listen to the word pronunciation?
To listen to how a word is pronounced by native speakers, press a grey button

How to delete the sound file for a dictionary?
To delete the sound file for a dictionary:
  • Go to the Dictionaries/Installed section in the side menu
  • Choose a translation direction using a language filter
  • Select the dictionary for sound deletion
  • Press the Remove Sound button in the dictionary description

How to translate a word or a phrase?
To translate a word or a phrase:
  • Go to the Translation/Text section in the side menu
  • Choose a translation direction using a language filter
  • Start entering the word or phrase you need to find in the search bar
  • Choose the word you need in the sorted list

How to change the order in which translations are presented from different dictionaries?
The order in which translations are presented from different dictionaries is determined by the order of dictionaries in the corresponding translation direction.
To change the order of dictionaries:
  • Go to the Dictionaries/Installed section in the side menu
  • Choose a translation direction using a language filter
  • Move the selected dictionary in the list using the arrows above

How to switch off a dictionary, so the translations from it will not be shown in the entry?
To disconnect a dictionary:
  • Go to the Dictionaries/Installed section in the side menu
  • Choose a translation direction using a language filter
  • Select the dictionary for disconnection
  • Choose the Deactivate in the menu

How to browse the translation history?
All words translated earlier are displayed in the Search History of the Translation/Text section (in reverse chronological order) if the search box is empty.

How to hide examples and comments in dictionary entries?
To hide examples and comments, choose the Brief View in the entry menu

How to browse inflected forms?
To browse inflected forms, press the following button:

How to translate?
In a video translation mode aim the phone camera at the word you need. Wait a second while camera is focusing (or use manual focus by long tapping on the screen) and tap on word.

How can I see the detailed translation?
To view the detailed translation, press the brief-translation area in the minicard.

What translation directions does the video translation support?
Video translation supports all translation directions available in the application, except translation directions where the source language is Kazakh or Chinese.

Why does the application fail to find the translation of any word in the text?
The reasons can be as follows:
  • Incorrectly set the source language – you must reverse the translation direction.
  • Poor shooting conditions – you must provide a good lighting for your paper text, hold your mobile device steadily.
  • The image is badly focused – you must use a manual focus or increase the distance to the text if it is too small.

Which translation is shown in the minicard?
The minicard shows the brief translation. This is the first meaning from the top-priority dictionary in the respective translation direction.

How can I see the detailed translation?
To view the detailed translation, press the brief-translation area in the minicard.

What translation directions does photo translation support?
Photo translation supports all translation directions available in the application, except translation directions where the source language is Kazakh or Chinese.

Why does the application fail to find the translation of any word in the text?
The reasons can be as follows:
  • Incorrectly set the source language – you must reverse the translation direction.
  • Poor quality of the original photo – you must retake photo of the text. Provide a good lighting for your paper text, hold your mobile device steadily and do not move it until the photo is taken.
  • Incorrectly determined the top and the bottom portions of the text – make sure that in the viewing window the camera icon on the photo button is oriented horizontally.
NOTE. A widget can be installed for quick access to Photo/video translation.

How to translate a word from other applications (depends on application and Android version)?
1) Some applications (like Alreader, Cool Reader, Moon+ Reader) provide their own way to translate words with Lingvo Dictionaries. Before using this you may need to apply some specific settings (for example to select Lingvo Dictionaries as default translator), it depends on the application.
2) For the most other applications you can perform translation with a command in popup menu for selected text. Set of commands depends on application, choose the most convenient one. The only one variant may be available.
  • Tap Translate in Lingvo in the menu (starting from Android 6.0)
  • Tap Share in the menu and then select Lingvo Dictionaries in the list of suggested applications
  • Tap Copy (in clipboard) and then translate the copied text with one of two possible methods (they should be enabled in Lingvo Dictionaries settings):
  • Text in clipboard is translated when Lingvo Dictionaries application gets active
  • Text in clipboard is translated after tapping on special notification placed in notification area as shortcut

  7. Indicate stress – highlighting or underlining stressed vowels in an entry: switch on/off (for dictionaries with accents)
